Author Interview – Alan Nayes

Have you started another book yet? Yes, I’m working on the third book in my Resurrection Trilogy series—RESURRECTION.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Writing more books. Hopefully between now and then I even sell a few.

What are your current writing projects now? I’m working on RESURECTION, the third book in my Resurrection Trilogy, and once this is completed I’ll move on to ALLEGIANCE, the sequel to my sci-fi paranormal romance, THE LEARNER.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? Just finished HOPELESS by Colleen Hoover and 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why? Yes, there is a group called the Eclective and I’ve been reading some of their books. To name a few, there’s PJ Jones, Heather Marie Adkins, Tara West, Emma Jameson, M. Edward McNally, Robyn Porter, and Shéa MacLeod. I’ve been impressed.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? There are so many sources for advice now on the internet—everything from looking for an agent or publisher to editing to beta readers—all with a click of the mouse. Research is so much more convenient too. Want to look up how to set a live trap, Google it, how to suture a wound, Google it, how to…you catch the drift. It really is a great time to be a writer. But the essential ingredient to success hasn’t changed. Write a GREAT STORY!

What contributes to making a writer successful? Three words—talent (though some might argue this point), persistence, and I believe luck is involved as well. Maybe I should change the three words to: persistence, persistence, and persistence. Yeah, that sounds more like it. To be successful in this business a writer better be persistence and not give up easily. Everyword written on that paper or screen is one word closer to a finished story.

Do you have any advice for writers? Persistence, persistence, and persistence. If you truly believe in your project, then just keep plowing ahead—regardless of how many rejections you get. And I’ve had a truckload! (if anyone wants any)

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers? Yes, a great big thank you to all readers who have given my stories a chance. There is nothing more enjoyable than hearing from a reader about how much they liked a story (except perhaps from that Hollywood director or producer who wishes to turn my story into a movie! Lol.) Readers everywhere, I hope you’ve enjoyed them. And KEEP READING!
