Author Interview – Sherrie Cronin @cinnabar01

Is there any books you really don’t enjoy? I think that any author hates to answer this because you don’t want to insult fellow authors out there who may be writing in the genre you most hate. But if you’ll let me insert all the caveats of “to each their own” which I honestly do mean, then I’ll confess that I just don’t enjoy horror stories. Actually, I don’t particularly like stories about any kind of dead bodies, and that does include vampires and zombies. Because I write under the broad umbrella of fantasy, that’s kind of awkward.
Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you? Far more than any writer should expect. My husband is my biggest cheerleader, best researcher and final proofreader. All three of my children chime in with ideas and encouragement. My sister is one of my finest beta readers and has helped with my cover designs. And a cousin and several old friends have gone out of their way to be helpful and supportive.
Do you plan to publish more books? Oh absolutely. The two genres I love to read are speculative fiction and crime. When I finish this collection of six books, I hope to try my hand at mystery novels, and also to write some harder science fiction aimed at young women.
What else do you do to make money, other than write? It is rare today for writers to be full time… I’m lucky to have a first profession that pays relatively well and that I enjoy. I’m a geophysicist working in oil exploration, and occasionally information from my “real job” finds its way into my stories.
What other jobs have you had in your life? Besides writing and having a career as a geophysicist, I did a lot of waitressing both times that I was in college. It’s a great way to learn about people, and to hone your organization skills. I also worked for a couple of years as a technical editor for a research institute.  I had no idea how useful that would be later in life for first pass editing of my own books.
