Author Interview–Derick Parsons @1_DerickParsons

Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you?

My family are very supportive, particularly my wife. She doesn’t understand my need to write but she absolutely supports me in every possible way.

Do you plan to publish more books?

Yes, I’ve a few ideas that excite me, that I want to develop.

What else do you do to make money, other than write? It is rare today for writers to be full time…

I was an engineer but now I write full time.

What other jobs have you had in your life?

In my youth I worked in factories and bars and building sites, which gave me a great respect for the ordinary working man. Joe Lunchpail may occasionally be ignorant and even bigoted but most workmen have an honesty and integrity you will never find in a boardroom or a courtroom.

If you could study any subject at university what would you pick?

I think Anthropology; I have a great interest in the ascent of man from the ape. Archeology and ancient history fascinate me too.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

I don’t think Dublin could be improved upon, if we could only evict all politicians from the island. I despise all politicians but Irish ones seem to be even more incompetent and corrupt than usual. The weather could be better too.

How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?

I have a laptop but I usually plan my books with pen and paper, and jot down notes in a ledger.

Where do you get support from? Do you have friends in the industry?

No.

How much sleep do you need to be your best?

Seven or eight hours is optimal, but I generally only get five.
